Green bay packer roster 20179/9/2023 ![]() ![]() He is a heat seeking missile that destroys his target on impact. I don’t mean to imply with the clip that Jones can’t cover but the thing that excites me about Jones is what you see above. No disrespect to Brice but this was a need pick, not a luxury one. With Hyde gone, Kentrell Brice is now the third safety. The Packers employ a ton of 3 safety looks in their dime package in which Burnett lines up as a linebacker. As far as why a safety, for those wondering, Jones isn’t a depth pick. The reaction following the pick is, “A safety? Why a safety? ….And who is Josh Jones?”īut as time goes on and you watch the player, it becomes clear why Jones was drafted and you start to wonder why the guy wasn’t in the first round conversation. ![]() Roughly 45 names have been batted back and forth on top of the 10 or so the gentleman on TV list as the best remaining. You’re texting your friends back and forth wondering who the pick will be. To me, the Josh Jones pick was the epitome of a Ted Thompson pick. The rest of the 5’11 corners are free to play toward the middle where athleticism is more important than raw size and power. With the addition of Davon House the Packers now have two big corners to handle outside duty which allows Gunter to strictly operate as the number three outside guy. King is a monster on the outside and is exactly what the Packers needed. If you want to beat him you have a shot with underneath throws but beating him deep or trying to throw a fade in the endzone is going to result in a bad day for you. You know why? The guy is 6’3 and runs a 4.3 40. In 2016, Kevin King allowed exactly 0 touchdowns. Part of me wanted to find a new clip so as to not not seem too boring or lazy but the more I think about it, there is no better representation of what Kevin King offers the Packers than this play. We’ve all seen this highlight at least a billion times. In an attempt to present something you’ve already seen dozens of times in a new way, we’ll use 1 play to summarize each player drafted. As we all brace for the most painful 3 months of the NFL dead season, let’s take a moment to get to know the newest Green Bay Packers. I thought about splitting this sack between Sims and Glennon, but since Sims held up long enough, I’m pinning it all on Glennon. It finally happened ladies and gentlemen, the 2017 NFL draft has officially concluded. On that route, if Howard reads zone coverage, he needs to settle in between it, if he reads man coverage, he should run away from the coverage. Since the Packer defender is right behind him when he turns, he should probably race to the right sideline. He executes his fake, then he runs through the line on a quick stick route. I’d also like to point out one more nit-picky thing about this play, so look at Jordan Howard’s route. The Packers also send a man late, right through the gap that opened up when Kyle Long stepped inside. I’m not sure if Glennon had it in his head to go for the home run, but with nothing open deep, he should have hit Miller to the left. Matthews keeps working, and he gets around the block.īut with that being said, Sims holds his block long enough for the play to be successful. Sims doesn’t anticipate Matthews fighting off the block, because he’s not tasked with blocking an edge rusher all that often. He stonewalls Matthews at first, but then he makes the mistake most inexperienced pass blockers make, he stopped moving his feet. Matthews is one of the better pass rushers in the game, and asking a tight end to take him on an island is usually a win for Goldilocks. The Bears kept Sims in to block Clay Matthews, which isn’t a good idea. I loved the idea of opening up with a play action pass, but the execution wasn’t good. The Bears opened up in a double tight end formation, with Dion Sims on the right side, and Zach Miller flexed off the line on the left. This was the very first play the Bears ran after the Packers methodically marched down the field on a 10 play, 75 yard drive. ![]() Sack 8 - First Quarter 9:49 - Clay Matthews Let’s see how things have progressed through four games over the last several years. One, Trubisky picked things up quicker than the Bears expected, and two, Glennon wasn’t very good. ![]() I was among the many that figured Glennon would be able to hold down the fort while Trubisky took his time learning the pro game, but two things happened. I figured he’d be a serviceable, turnover-free type of quarterback, but that never happened. Glennon played much, much worse than I thought he would. With Mike Glennon sliding to the bench and Mitchell Trubisky taking the reigns, it’s (hopefully) the end of an era. ![]()
